also the National Club which represents, protects, and furthers
the interests of the breed and its owners throughout the world.

 

Boston Terrier National Specialty

The primary annual activity of the Boston Terrier Club of America is the National Specialty. Held in either April or May of each year, the National Specialty consists of several events including Futurity, Sweepstakes, Conformation, Obedience, Agility (Performance Events) and Boston Terrier of the Year.

Cancellation/Postponement of BTCA 2020 National Specialty Show:

The BTCA Officers and Board of Directors held an emergency meeting this morning to determine our course of action for the 2020 National Specialty Show in light of the extraordinary situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.  Prior to our meeting we consulted Callaway Resort and Gardens (our show site and hotel), American Kennel Club, and Foy Trent Dog Shows (our superintendent) as well as the leadership of Greater Atlanta Boston Terrier Club (our hosts for the National).

The Board decided to postpone the 2020 BTCA National Specialty Show.  All BTCA and GABTC events scheduled for April 20 - 26 will be cancelled as soon as AKC offices open on Monday.  We will then work with AKC and Callaway Resort and Gardens to reschedule our conformation events for later in the year.  (For AKC that means completely starting over with applications for events.) Callaway has given us a list of available dates which the Board prioritized.  Key factors considered in prioritizing were weather, availability of our show personnel, and affiliate club specialty dates. We will set the new schedule by coordinating with AKC and Callaway to find dates satisfactory to all involved.  

Due to the complexity of rescheduling and limited availability of event sites, we will NOT be rescheduling obedience, rally, and agility for 2020.  This was a difficult decision but one that we know is best for the clubs and members.  We WILL bring all of these events back in 2021.  If you have questions or concerns regarding the companion events and how this decision was reached, please contact Charlie Leavitt ( lightingfundamentals@gmail.com).

Actions that you need to take now:

  • If you made entries for any of the GABTC and BTCA events for 2020, contact the superintendent (Foy Trent Dog Shows) or Agility Secretary (Laurie Cowhig) to cancel your entries.  You need to do this before the closing date (Wednesday, March 18, 2020 for all except agility; agility is April 10, 2020) to assure that you receive refunds for your entries.
  • If you made reservations at Callaway Resort and Gardens YOU must call to cancel those reservations. To avoid all chances of cancellation penalty, be sure to do this by Wednesday, March18, 2020.  BTCA, GABTC and I cannot cancel your reservations.
  • If you made other accommodation reservations, call to cancel them.  We sincerely hope that those vendors will work with you fairly in light of the COVID-19 situation.
  • If you have reservations with airlines or other public transportation, you will need to deal with those carriers to receive refunds or to determine how to make changes for your flights.  We hope that you will be able to change flights to meet your needs for the new show dates and are working to get those dates for you as soon as humanly possible.

When will new plans be announced?
Updates will be made available as soon as we know the new event dates and have contracts signed for them.  We hope to have tentative information by early next week and everything approved shortly after that.

Trophy Donations of $50.00 or more will entitle you to a FREE catalog.
Donations of $20 or more, you will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Gift Card.

If you cannot attend the show, your catalog will be mailed to you
along with a copy of the Winners Sheets.
