There are times when Bostons are given up to Rescue and Adoption organizations due to being an older dog or a dog in need of medical intervention or lack of funds to treat and care for an older dog or dog with "Special Needs". Below are some wonderful Boston Terriers that are older or in need of special medical attention.

SPECIAL NEEDS

Jack........................

"Jack" is what can best be described as a "train wreck". He was turned in to an emergency clinic after being hit by a car. He had sustained massive internal head injuries and will probably need one eye removed.....he has already lost the sight in it. On top of the injuries already mentioned he was severely malnourished......his weight was down to only 11 lbs. And yes, of course, he is also heartworm positive..!! One of the worst infestations I have ever seen............he can only walk for a short distance, and is then so out of breath he has to be carried.

We have been trying to "beef him up", and have succeeded to some degree: his tongue is now pink instead of gray; and he is up to almost 14 lbs........a real "porker"..!! We have cleaned out all of the many and varied intestinal parasites, and healed up his skin, but that is only the beginning. We were afraid to try to start his Heartworm treatment because of his severely compromised condition, and now we are afraid that the healthier we get him, the healthier we are making the heartworms..!!

He has now developed a kidney infection, and also pneumonia (this being most likely a reaction to the heartworms). We have to address the heartworms now (as soon as the pneumonia & kidney infection is under control) and are planning to try for a very conservative, slow-kill treatment that will be done over a course of at least 12 wks. Your prayers, and your support will be sorely needed for this little guy that has been through so much already and yet has so very far to go.

If you can help even a little bit, please help us to help this little boy..!

Little Anna....................

Anna is a Boston Terrier and Chihuahua mix. She weighs ten pounds and is approximately one year old. She is heartworm negative and up to date on all of her vaccinations. Anna is a special-needs dog and was rescued from the Columbus, MS, animal shelter in May and was unable to use her back legs. She had x-rays done, which proved her problem to be two shattered vertebrae in her back. Anna's injury was an old injury. and it was too late to operate. She is able to move around very well by dragging her little rear legs. She also has a brand new wheelchair, but has not gotten used to it yet; we are working on this every day. Due to her injury, she is not able to urinate on her own, so she will need someone that is very patient and dedicated to her care. She will need to have her bladder expressed three to four times per day. She is able to have bowel movements on her own, but she does not know when these will occur. I have gotten her on a feeding schedule, and most of her bowel movements occur at approximately the same time each day. Anna will need to be placed in a home with no other animals, because she does not seem to care for other dogs or cats. Anna is a very sweet and loving dog. She will break your heart when you first see her, and then you realize that she is perfectly happy and has no clue anything is wrong with her. She loves to play, sleep on her back in your lap, and her favorite treat is milk bones. If she is ready to play and you will not play with her, she will just toss a milk bone across the room and then scoot her little self over there and get it. Once you meet her, you will realize she is a little precious angel that one can never forget.

Godfrey........................

This adorable little guy is 2 years old and deaf. He came to us from the SPCA, where they are unable to adopt deaf dogs. He is just perfectly marked and as lovable and cute as can be. Godfrey was turned over to rescue because his prior owners were "unable to keep him contained." He came from a home with children over the age of 6 years, but that is pretty much the extent of his history that we have.
Godfrey is up to date on vaccinations and has been altered. an application can be found at: Boston Terrier Rescue of Greater Houston

SENIOR DOGS

We have two healthy 11 year old Boston males in foster care in MA. They do not have to be placed together and would probably do better apart.

Foster mom in MA says:
Sam...........................

is a dream animal... he is so sweet and lounges all over the place. He was literally lying upside down on us just a few minutes ago. He walks very well on a leash too. He snorts like a little pig when he eats and when he sniffs around.
Please check out his pics on our site:

Beans..........................

is very sweet as well... just more reserved. He is WILD about playing ball, and he is great inside. He also loves being petted and likes to lay on laps. He walks well on a leash until he sees another dog, and then he becomes very difficult to walk. I had to pick him up to bring him home tonight. If we had a fenced in yard, he would be a great pet. He is just too difficult to deal with in city parks that are full of dogs.
